Steel Valley Project recently worked in partnership with Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust at Wyming Brook Nature Reserve to install a new K-barrier and replace an existing horse hop, helping to improve access  across the site.

What initially seemed like a straightforward task soon proved far more challenging than expected. As the team began digging the footings for the K-barrier, they uncovered nearly a metre of solid concrete. With hand digging getting nowhere, a hydraulic breaker had to be brought in to tackle the concrete.

Despite these challenges, the volunteers went above and beyond, showing real dedication and teamwork in removing the concrete

The newly installed K-barrier will  improve accessibility along the paths around the nature reserve, making them easier and safer for visitors to enjoy. The old horse hop was also well in need of replacement, and the new installation has greatly improved the look of the area
