The Steel Valley Project has been enhancing Stocksbridge, Bradfield and the Upper Don area since forming in 1988. A registered charity, our organisation works towards the following objectives:

  • Manage habitats for the benefit of wildlife, people, heritage and landscape.
  • Encourage access to open green space/wider countryside.
  • Deliver environmental/education/interpretation to local schools/wider population.
  • Provide support, advice, training & supervision to volunteers, trainees & community groups in countryside management/ conservations skills by working on real local environmental projects.

We have a long history of delivering environmental, community and countryside projects with a range of partners, consistently working to improve the environment in our operational area.

Working with volunteers is a huge part of our organisation and we have a team of dedicated people who help us to deliver our practical and community activities throughout the year.

We’ve planted lots of trees in the Stocksbridge valley since forming. Check this link to view an interactive picture which shows an image taken in 1988 and then the same location 29 years later (2017). To see a full image of each year, simply move the arrow from the centre of the picture in either direction.
