Steel Valley Project is working with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust to transform a former colliery site at Shireoaks, near Worksop, creating a better habitat for wildlife and strengthening the area’s resilience to climate change.
Natural flood management works with nature to slow and store water, helping to reduce flood risk. During the first phase of this major project, we installed 39 leaky dams and two cross-drains, added 20 flow detectors to monitor water movement, and created a new path.
Phase two begins in July, when we will create ponds, scrapes and bunds across the site. Our dedicated volunteers will work alongside Ryan and an excavator to help shape these new features.
