In November, Steel Valley Project was delighted to be voted fourth in Stocksbridge Town Council’s Participatory Budget.

The funding is being used in the restoration of dry stone walls in Bitholmes Wood. These walls once bordered old countryside routes and acted as important field boundaries within the woodland.
Dry stone walling is a traditional countryside craft, using carefully selected stones fitted together without mortar. This ancient technique creates strong, long-lasting structures that sit naturally in the landscape, also providing valuable habitats for wildlife.
So far, the team has successfully rebuilt approximately 25 metres of wall, with more still to complete in the coming weeks.
