Richard’s main responsibility is the delivery of practical project work supported by the volunteer team.

Richard also recruits volunteers, delivers training and supervision to regular volunteers, trainees and community groups, maintains the tools and equipment, works with project partners and landowners and ensures careful planning and development of the various project work.

Richard grew up in the valley and lived here for over 30 years. Having previously worked for Sheffield City Council’s Ranger Service for 11 years, he has extensive experience of working with local community groups to improve local parks and woodlands, providing environmental education and events.

Richard has a variety of technical qualifications to help support the environmental aims of the Steel Valley Project.

At home Richard enjoys spending time with his family, walking, mountain biking and learning to play guitar.
