Over recent weeks the team has been involved in a variety of tasks preparing for Autumn

National Grid Community Matters Fund – At the top of Pea Royd Hill is the Steel Valley Walk viewpoint, the team have been felling trees and clearing the heavily overgrown vegetation which obscures the view. Over 1500 native woodland bulbs such as Bluebells, Wood Anemones and Lesser celandine are currently being planted and the existing interpretation board which was out of date and damaged will be updated and replaced over the next few weeks

The team also removed 1400 tree guards along the Steel Valley Walk, and a tidy up of the path removing overgrowing vegetation – all guards after being removed are recycled.

The Autumn cut at Bitholmes Meadow : the team have been out strimming as part of the meadow management of this area, The Autumn cut in September/October is used to help keep grasses at bay, letting the wildflowers thrive.

Native grasses and other perennial weeds are faster growing than the wildflowers and if the meadow is left to compete naturally with these grasses and weeds, it could potentially die out as the wild flowers are overtaken by them.
